This page describes the Edit order window explaining how to create and edit production order related information.
To manually create a new production order do one of the following:
- Select New from the order list tool bar
- Right-click directly in the Gantt chart (in white area outside operations) and select “New order”. With this option, the list of available master routes is filtered, only displaying master routes that route through the resource you right clicked on.
From this window you may edit order header data like quantity, delivery date etc. You may also edit what master route to use as template for the production order route.
The window contains the following fields:

| Order number | The order number of the production order. The system will automatically suggest the next unique number, according to the current ID generator scheme specified (see ID generator setup) Unless the number entered is unique, you will be warned when cliking the window Ok button (i.e. for special cases you may choose to create two production orders with the same number, which is Ok since the system in the background will ensure that each production order receives a unique database record id). |
| Order type | This field will not be displayed as standard. Additional custom order types may be added from a script, in which case a drop down box allows the user to select the desired order type. A custom order type may have a different number series than the default. As an example you could create maintenance orders having a different number scheme from the default orders. Also custom order types is useful for filtering in e.g the Order list or on reports. An example script is provided in <sch_client_dir>\data\scripts\misc\TestOrderType.groovy. |
| Series | The series this production order is connected to. Please refer to chapter Optional modules – Series further details. |
| Customer | Name of the customer. Is selected from the list of existing customers or entered manually. Can be left blank. |
| Product | The name or the number of the product to produce. Is selected from the list or entered manually. If going to be viewed in the Gantt chart, then try to restrict the length to something short. The product name field can be left blank. |
| Quantity | The amount to produce Is used when calculating operation processing times (workload) when using the capacity field for an operation. A positive quantity is mandatory, i.e. it cannot be zero! |
| Input Qty | Only relevant when one or more operations of the route has a waste factor different from zero. Toggles whether the quantity entered is the quantity to produce from the last operation, or the quantity going into the first operation. E.g. if an operation has a waste factor of 0.5 and you need 100 good pieces, then you need 200 items as input to the operation. If this item is checked, the quantity entered is the starting amount. Note that you may add columns for both “Quantity in” and “Quantity out” to the Order list window. |
| Project | The project this production order belongs to. Please refer to chapter Project for further details. |
| Text | Comments to the order, e.g. free text you would like to display to operators or others. The text is also displayed in the Order list window when an order is selected in the order list. The order text field can be left blank. |
| Materials ready | The date “Materials ready” states the most critical availability date of raw material for this production order. The date is i.e. used to display if the order exceeds “The materials ready” date when the plan is viewed in the Gantt chart. Also scheduling rules working “Forward from Material date” is available. The date must be before “Delivery date”. The Materials date cannot be left empty, i.e. a valid date is mandatory. |
| Delivery date | The delivery date states when the order is to be delivered (e.g. the requirement date from an MRP calculation). Scheduling strategies like “Backward from delivery date” will use the delivery date. The date must be after the date “Materials ready”. The Delivery date cannot be left empty, i.e. a valid date is mandatory. |
| Route | The route contains the operation steps to follow in order to produce the order. The route drop down list is a list of all available master routes. The operations of the currently selected route are shown in the Operations table at the bottom of the window. The times can be changed by double-clicking on the cell with the value to be changed. !Note that for a new prodcution order, it is the master route you see. I.e. changes made to the route in this table changes the master route, so subsequent orders created from the same master route will be affected. If you would like to edit the route values just for this single order, then first create the production order and then edit the production order route from the Order list window For each operation the following data will by default be displayed ( (note that you may add/remove columns to the table as needed):
It is possible to change the order of operations, add new operations or remove existing operations by clicking the button “Edit routes” (read more below). |
| Create planned | With a check mark in this field, a production order is automatically given the status Planned when it is created. With no check mark in this field, the production order is given the status New (see important tip below about order state and when a production order is visible in the Gantt chart). |
| Scheduling strategy | Select a scheduling strategy for the order. By clicking on “Scheduling Strategy” you may select a scheduling strategy to use, in case setting Create planned (see description below) is checked. Please note that this scheduling strategy not only impacts the current order but all subsequent orders until changed. |
When the order has been created, it is possible to edit order parameters (including route parameters) in the window Order list.
Other fields and buttons

Color |
Select the color for the production order (default it cycles through a palette of different colors). The color may be displayed as a column in the Order list. Also operations in the Gantt chart uses the color in the Order Color Mode”. |
Edit routes |
Opens the window Edit route for editing and creation of routes. The Edit route window may be used for management of both master routes and production order routes. Observe that changing the values of a master route will affect all subsequent orders created from the same master route (see description above in red) |
New route |
Create a production order route assigned to the current order. Use this function to create a one-of-a-kind route. I.e. situations where the route is unique and it does not make sense to create and reuse a master route. |
| Operation text | The text field just below the Operations table is editable whenever an operation row is selected. Any text entered is saved in field Operation.customText1. The text is by default shown as part of the yellow pop up text, when the mouse pointer rests for a bit on an operation in the Gantt chart. |
| Create and stay | Saves and creates the new order when the following mandatory fields contains valid values: Order number, quantity, materials ready, delivery date and route. The window does not close when the order has been created, so you can quickly create the next production order |
| Ok | Saves and creates the new order when the following mandatory fields contains valid values: Order number, quantity, materials ready, delivery date and route. The window is closed when the order has been created |
| Cancel | Close without saving |
