This section describes how to customize GUI elements like buttons, text fields, and menu items in the right-click menu and the top bar in ROB-EX. You will use this for two main purposes
- Customize what is visible in the Detail Panel located above the Gantt chart
- Disable or hide buttons/menu items for certain roles (e.g. a Planner role with limited access and permissions)
The customization requires editing of an XML configuration file. This first section will give you a description of where to find the file roles.xml to make the changes and an explanation of the file structure and the different roles the content maps to. Finally, some concrete examples will cover the most common actions.
Location of the configuration file
The GUI configuration is defined in XML format in a configuration file called roles.xml. The original file is in the directory
To customize the GUI configuration, follow the steps:
- Copy the
- Place the copy of roles.xml file, in the directory
The reason the file is copied to the custom folder is, that each time ROB-EX Desktop Planner is updated to a newer version the files in the config folder are replaced and this is not the case for the content in the custom folder.
- To edit the roles.xml file, use a text editor like notepad.exe, or preferably using an editor which can format XML correctly.
