Web Planner v7.2.2.284 and later has built in support to easily, directly from the Gantt chart, select one or more resources and carry out any of the following “Create in period” actions:

  • Open, close or delete resource shift calendar.
  • Create express operation.
  • Create express order.

To start any of these actions

  1. Right click the mouse anywhere in the white part of the Gantt chart while dragging the mouse
  2. A selection rectangle appears. Use the handlebars on either size of the rectangle to adjust the selected period
    1. Notice that the selection rectangle can be dragged across multiple resources
    2. Use the “Snap” drop down to further adjust the selection rectangle, by snapping it to either nearest full hour (h), nearest day (d), closest calendar period © or closest operation °. Notice each of the snap functions has a keyboard shortcut.
  3. Select the desired “Create in period” action from the drop down.

The following sections provides more detail on each of the different “Create in period” actions.

Close/Open calendar in period

Close or open the resource specific shift calendar for as an example break downs, extra working hours, etc. Directly clicking either of the Close or Open calendar in period options will, without further due, carry out the desired action.

Click the gear icon to change the default values for color, description, and efficiency/calendar factor overrides. Changes will be remembered for the user and used next time.
Undo and redo are supported for either of these actions.

Delete calendar exceptions

Any existing resource specific shift calendar exception, whether it is an open or closed entry, fully enclosed in the selection rectangle is deleted without further due. If the selection rectangle covers more than one resource specific shift calendar exception, they are all removed.

Undo and redo are supported for this action.

Open/close calendar in period…

Close or open the resource specific shift calendar for as an example break downs, extra working hours, etc. A wizard dialog opens allowing custom values to be entered for color, description, and efficiency/calendar factor overrides. Values entered will not be remembered. Use this option for one-of type exceptions where color and/or description must be changed on each occurrence.

Undo and redo are supported for this action.

Express operation…

A wizard dialog opens allowing the selection of a named master operation. You are only able to select among master operations assigned to the selected resource – or where the selected resource is configured as an alternative.

When “Create” is clicked an operation is created. The operation receives a workload ensuring the duration spans the selected period. For operations based on capacity/quantity the operation level quantity is adjusted (production order quantity will always be 1).

If the selection rectangle goes across multiple resources then multiple express operations are created – one for each resource. Each operation created will have its own associated production order.
Note that in the Desktop Planner the similar functionality, for historic reasons, refers to creating an “Express order”.

Undo and redo are supported for this action.

Express order…

A wizard dialog opens allowing the selection of a named master route. You are only able to select among master routes that directly routes through the selected resource – or having operations where the selected resource is configured as an alternative.

When “Create” is clicked, a new production order is created and the operation routing through the selected resource is assigned to that resource.

The operation assigned to the selected resource receives a workload ensuring the duration spans the selected period. For operations based on capacity/quantity production the production order quantity is set accordingly. Note this may cause the production order quantity not to be an integer value, but rather a floating-point value like e.g., “37.5”.

If the selection rectangle goes across multiple resources an express order is created only for the first of the selected resources.

Note that in the Desktop Planner no similar functionality is available. Closest option in Desktop Planner is to right click somewhere in the Gantt chart white area and select the “New order” functionality.

Undo and redo are supported for this action.
